FAQ’s / Pricing

  • Yes! I offer a free 20-minute consultation by phone or video. Finding the right therapist can feel like a big step, and it really helps to have a real conversation first. Therapy works best when there’s comfort, trust, and a sense that you’re not doing this alone. That doesn’t mean it’s always easy; meaningful therapy often involves hard questions and tender emotions. But you should feel safe, respected, and genuinely supported. Feeling like we’re in this together matters.

A short call is the best way to get a feel for what it might be like to work together and to see if it feels like a good fit. If you’re curious, I’d be glad to connect! You can reach out by phone, text, or email, or click “Contact” on this toolbar.

  • My fees are $160 per 50-minute session for individual therapy, and $180 per 50-minute session for couples/ relationship therapy.

    Sliding Scale

I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients who need a lower fee. I do this because access to therapy matters to me, and I also need to care for the sustainability of my practice. Sliding scale availability changes depending on my current caseload, so I’m not always able to offer reduced rates at every level.

If I’m not able to meet your needs financially, I’m always open to having an honest conversation and, when helpful, offering referrals to other providers or resources. If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to ask — it’s a normal and welcome part of the conversation.

People sometimes wonder whether it’s “okay” to request a sliding scale. As a loose guide:

    • If your basic needs are consistently met and you have disposable income, the sliding scale is likely not the best fit.

    • If meeting your basic needs feels stressful but manageable most months, a mid-range sliding scale fee may make sense.

    • If you’re often worried about covering basic needs and don’t always have enough, a lower-end sliding scale fee may be appropriate.

This approach is inspired by the Green Bottle Method, which centers fairness, transparency, and shared responsibility around cost.

    Good Faith Estimate:

If you are not using insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected cost of therapy. You’re welcome to request this before scheduling. If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above your estimate, you have the right to dispute it. I encourage you to save a copy of your estimate for your records.

For more information about your rights under the No Surprises Act, you can visit the CMS website.

  • I do not accept insurance. However, I can provide a superbill upon request. A superbill is a detailed receipt which, depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for out-of-network services.

To find out if your insurance offers reimbursements for out-of-network therapy services, please contact your plan directly. Be sure to ask if your plan covers out-of-network mental health services, many do!

  • We’ll begin with a free consultation by phone or video. This is a chance for us to talk a bit about what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping for, and any questions you have. It also gives you a feel for how I work and whether it feels like a good match. If we both decide to move forward, we’ll schedule a first session, and I’ll send along a few simple forms to complete ahead of time.

Our first session is about connection. I’ll focus on getting to know you and creating a sense of safety and ease. We won’t rush into the hardest parts of your story. My work is trauma-informed, which means we move thoughtfully and at a pace that feels manageable for you. Over the first few sessions, we’ll clarify what you want from therapy and begin shaping a path forward together. The tone is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental.

Therapy is always your choice. You get to explain what feels helpful, what doesn’t, and how long you want to stay in the work. Scheduling a session doesn’t mean you’re signing up for something long-term. It’s completely okay to come for a session or two and then decide how you’d like to proceed. All I ask is that you bring curiosity and a willingness to listen to your own instincts. They tend to be good guides when it comes to finding the right fit.

  • Both! I offer telehealth sessions to clients all over California. In-person sessions are available at my office in Lafayette, CA. I also offer walking therapy in Oakland and Berkeley.

In some situations, I may recommend meeting in person if it feels like the most supportive or effective way to do the work you’re coming in for. We’ll always talk this through together. Your safety, comfort, and well-being are at the center of every decision we make.

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask that you give me at least 24 hours notice. If you skip, cancel, or reschedule a session with less than 24 hours notice, you will be billed for the full session.

That said, I understand that life is complicated and emergencies happen. For that reason, I offer each client one, one-time fee waiver for a missed session cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointment.

  • I am licensed to provide therapy in California. If you are outside of California and interested in services, feel free to contact me and I can provide referrals.

  • Therapy sessions are 50-minutes long. The number of therapy sessions depends on your goals. A good deal can be accomplished in a few sessions. At the same time, some of my clients choose to attend therapy long term. We can talk about your goals and what would be the best fit for your needs.
